Kindermusik of Ashburn, VA; The best music class for babies and toddlers in Northern VA!

I have taken my son to several music classes for toddlers; all purporting to enrich cognitive development, encourage musical awareness, and engage the child in a fun environment, some of which have been extremely expensive.  The ONLY class that has managed to achieve all three, while still being affordable, has been Kindermusik.  Founded by Amy Copley in Winchester a few years ago, the business has now opened a new location in Ashburn! (yay!)  They are now enrolling (see below). 

We learned about Kindermusik when one of the instructors reached out to my moms meetup group, Potomac Falls Moms for a better Community, and offered a free demo.  I was skeptical at first, imagining crazy toddlers running around, screaming, and banging on very loud, very annoying instruments.  I was very, very wrong!

Well thought out lesson plans

The class is very structured, and the instructor knew exactly how to engage, focus, and entertain the children, while teaching them valuable musical/cognitive skills at the same time.  Each activity was 1-3 minutes, [perfect for a toddlers attention span!] and focused on a different cognitive/musical skill.  The instructor explained the cognitive skill being taught before each activity for the parents, then clearly explained the activity to the children.  There was circle time, marching, learning different beats (whole notes, half notes ect.), and sing-a-longs/dance time.  For each activity, there was a new instrument or toy for the children to use; shakers, bells, and even little trains and cars for a 'choo choo train" song!  When a child was shy or didn't want to participate, the teacher gently engaged them without pressuring too much.  She was fabulous! 

All of the instructors are very well educated musically and can play a variety of instruments.  I have a piano and our instructor played an amazing rendition of the Charlie Brown theme song!  More importantly, they also all have valuable experience working with young children.

My favorite part was the "calm down/cuddle time" at the end.  During this period, she played a quiet song and instructed the children to cuddle with their parent.  My son laid down next to me, closed his eyes, and cuddled with me for the entire song; it was amazing and wonderful. (He generally does not stop moving from the time he wakes up until the moment he falls asleep).
